Mr. Che-Wei Chang is a Representative at GSIF who brings
to the firm two decades experience fostering the internationalization
of the Taiwan and China automotive industries.
Mr. Chang began his career as a professor at leading
Taiwan universities including National Taiwan University,
National Cheng Kung University, and the National Central
University, before joining Yulon Motor Co., Ltd. in
1981. After joining Yulon, he teamed up with Hsin Chu
and Shih-Fu Lin to design Taiwan's first domestically-produced
car - "Feeling." This combination was referred
to in Taiwan as the "magic team."
After the Feeling was launched in 1986, he was promoted
to Executive Vice President where he was responsible
for the internationalization of Yulon Motors. He coordinated
a series of plans to facilitate international cooperation
with Chrysler, Nissan, and GM Motors, and enhance exports
to the US market.
In the late 1980s, Mr. Chang started the trend of visiting
manufacturing facilities in Mainland China to establish
joint ventures to exploit the local market. During the
past decade he has built up strong relationships with
Mainland Chinese manufacturers and completed large cooperation
projects such as the deal between GM Taiwan and Xiamen
Motor Co., Ltd, which resulted in the establishment
of King Long Buses. The new company became an agent
to manufacture King Long coaches and the BMW 5 Series,
a milestone for Xiamen's motor industry.
Mr. Chang graduated from National Taiwan University
with a B.S. in Civil Engineering before receiving his
Ph.D. at Ohio State University.
